Keeping the Beat: From Basslines to Business Success

25 years of code, music, and innovation consulting — discover how basslines, startups, and scalable solutions shaped my approach to building better business technology.

25 Years of Code, Coffee, and Creative Problem Solving

I've been writing code professionally for 25 years now — yeah, I started young and never looked back. Over the years, I've had the privilege of building applications that serve over 100,000 daily users, which taught me one crucial thing: when your software breaks, a lot of people notice. Fast.

That's why I'm obsessed with security and stability. Sure, moving fast is great, but moving fast while keeping things rock-solid? That's the real challenge. I've learned that user-centered design isn't just a buzzword — it's the difference between building something people actually want to use and building something that looks impressive in a boardroom but falls flat in the real world.

The halfbaked Journey

In 2017, I took the leap and founded halfbaked, my innovation consulting agency. The name? Well, let's just say it reflects my philosophy: sometimes the best ideas start half-baked and evolve through real-world testing.

Working with everyone from scrappy SMEs to Fortune 500 companies, I've found myself in boardrooms helping leadership teams turn abstract innovation strategies into concrete results. Design sprints, rapid prototyping, idea validation — it's all about getting from "what if" to "here it is" as quickly as possible.

The MVP Whisperer

Here's something I've gotten pretty good at: building MVPs that don't suck. You know how most "minimum viable products" feel like they're held together with digital duct tape? Mine are different. They're technically solid, stable, and secure enough that when clients inevitably want to scale them up, we're not starting from scratch.

The secret? Even when building something that might get thrown away, I never compromise on the fundamentals. Security isn't negotiable, even in a prototype.

Startups, Failures, and the Occasional Win

I'd be lying if I said every venture was a success. I've started companies that crashed and burned spectacularly — and honestly, those failures taught me more than any success ever could. But I've also had some wins along the way.

One project I'm particularly proud of is Wastics, my sustainability-focused startup. Because let's face it — we're building all this cool tech, but if we're not thinking about our planet while we do it, what's the point?

The Music Chapter

Daily Grind band

Before all this tech stuff took over my life, I was actually making a living as a musician. I played bass in several bands, recorded albums, and even toured across Europe. Those late nights in cramped tour vans taught me more about teamwork, creativity under pressure, and dealing with technical difficulties than any MBA program ever could.

Plus, there's something about keeping rhythm that translates surprisingly well to keeping projects on track.

What Drives Me Today

These days, I'm all about helping businesses get closer to their customers and employees. I love diving into messy processes, finding the pain points, and building solutions that actually make people's work lives better. It's not just about automation for automation's sake — it's about understanding where technology can genuinely add value and focusing on economic impact and efficiency.

The Bottom Line

After 25 years in this industry, I've learned that the best solutions come from understanding both the technical possibilities and the human realities. Whether I'm architecting a system for massive scale or jamming with a band in front of thousands of people, it all comes down to the same thing: making something that works, that people actually want to use, and that maybe — just maybe — makes their day a little bit better.
